Hush Hush: Conversations with Myself, 17th-19th August
Hush Hush: Conversations with Myself is a curated event, bringing together a diverse range of works that address ideas relating to internal dialogue and the idea of a ‘dialogical self’.
The Dialogical Self refers to an ideology encapsulated by Hannah Arendt’s claim in 1958 that: “If people were not different, they would have nothing to say to each other. And if they were not the same, they would not understand each other”. The theory weaves the concepts of self and dialogue together in the hope of achieving a more profound understanding of the interconnection of self and society.
Hush Hush: Conversations with Myself features recent and newly commissioned work of Pietro Bardini, Cosima Cobley Carr, Melanie Eckersley and Dagmar Schürrer. Individually these artists use a range of media and methodologies to approach the idea of internal dialogue, questioning and highlighting such ideas as stream of consciousness, how we relate to our environment of material and the ever-increasing array of immaterial and digital objects, how one’s individual voice is affected by routine and communal living, the relationship between individuality and creativity, as well as how we relate to those whose inner lives seem strange or unfamiliar.

Concrete Assembly is a London-based art collective, composed of curator, Maisie Linford and artists Cosima Cobley Carr, and Pietro Bardini. They produce contemporary art, critical writing and interdisciplinary events. Concrete Assembly is built on a desire for collaboration, bringing together diverse artists that might not ordinarily be shown together. This approach, prioritising theme over style or medium, opens up new expressive space for the viewer, creating fertile ground for conversation and innovation.
